HIT Body Contouring FAQs

What are acoustic waves?

«

Acoustic waves are sound waves.  In the HIT system these are used in the form of high-intensity pressure waves that travel beneath the surface of the skin.  They are used to  target fat cells, stimulate circulation and encourage the body's natural processes, without the need for any surgical intervention.

How do acoustic waves improve skin texture by recompacting tissues?

«

The HIT treatment uses sound wave that pass through your skin under pressure, breaking up tight, tough bands of tissue that can cause cellulite.  The process boosts blood flow to the area, which in turn helps your body to build fresh elastin and collagen.  This leaves the treated area looking firmer, smoother and less lumpy.

The sound waves act like a deep tissue massage, relaxing stiff, fibrous bands within the skin.  By loosening these and making the tissue smoother, it's harder for fatty deposits to appear on the surface.   The mechanical vibrations from the treatment trigger your body's natural healing response, stimulating your skin's cells to produce healthier looking skin, while the boost to blood flow flushes out excess fluids through lymphatic drainage.

What does a HIT Treatment feel like?

«

A HIT treatment feels like a fast rhythmic tapping or pulsing vibration on your skin.   It can feel a bit strange to start with, but generally people soon get used to it.

The machine uses compressed air to generate acoustic waves which makes a loud steady clicking noise.   We will provide cool ultrasound gel to help the handheld device glide over your skin and most patients describe the feeling of the treatment as mild and tolerable.   We can adjust the intensity if needed to ensure your comfort.

Is there any downtime?

«

There is no downtime after a HIT treatment, and you will be able to return to normal activities right away.  You may find the treated area looks a little pink but this soon subsides.

Are there any side effects to acoustic wave therapy?

«

Common side effects to of HIT AWT are mild and temporary.  They usually clear up in a couple of days.  The treatment does not break the skin so there is no risk of infection.

Common side effects include redness and warmth, minor bruising, mild swelling, slight tenderness and, occasionally, mild numbness on the skin surface.

Is HIT acoustic wave therapy suitable for everyone?

«

HIT is considered very safe and suitable for most people, but should be avoided you:

  • are currently pregnant
  • have a pacemaker or other implanted electrical devices
  • take prescription blood thinners
  • have an active skin infection or open wound in the treatment area
  • have a history of DVT.

Our fully trained team will carry out a thorough consultation ahead of your treatment to ensure you are a suitable candidate.

What is cellulite?

«

Cellulite is the dimpled, uneven appearance that can develop on the skin, most commonly on the thighs, buttocks and stomach. It occurs when fat deposits push against connective tissue beneath the skin, creating the "orange peel" effect that many people wish to reduce.
